  1. Embracing Fall Colors:

Fall makes us think of different shades of leaves, pretty sunsets, and pumpkin spice lattes (which, may or may not be pictured in your final images. We won’t judge if you do, seriously.). :) It is synonymous with rich and warm earthy tones. When selecting outfits for a fall couples photo shoot, the first thing to consider is the color palette for your fall outfits. We like to embrace the palette of the season, even if that means wearing neutral colors for our outfits and simply letting the leaf colors shine when shooting outdoors. If you’re hoping for outfits with pops of color, rustic orange, mustard yellow, deep burgundy, and olive and forest greens are a good idea to show off that autumn magic in your images.

  1. Cute and Coordinated:

We of all people, love a good matching outfit picture. Especially in pajamas, especially at Christmas! While they’re really endearing, a good rule of thumb is to coordinate colors and textures rather than putting together identical ensembles. For example, if the chosen color scheme is earth tones and one partner opts for a forest green sweater or flannel shirt, the other might complement it with a cream scarf or brown or burgundy bomber jacket. You’ll both be in harmony with each other without appearing too uniform. This doesn’t mean that you both can’t wear the same type of top or bottom. I know Paul and I have had a photoshoot both wearing cozy sweaters, just not the same color. This is a great option to be cohesive and coordinating but complementing at the same time. Although being twinsies with each other sure is fun!

  1. Layers, layers, layers:

With Fall weather being so unpredictable, layering allows you to adapt to varying temperatures while adding interest and dimension to your outfits for the viewer. Some examples would be soft cardigans, stylish scarves (think pattern here), textured, leather, or bomber jackets, or plaid shirts over a solid color in your fall photoshoot wardrobe. Layers also offer opportunities for a more relaxed look or even to make something that may seem more spring like a white dress look more in season.

4. Textures are a good choice:

When we think of the autumn season, we think of texture. Think of the falling leaves, cozy blankets, and light jackets. Fall is the season of texture, and both Paul and I love fabrics like wool, cashmere, leather, and suede. Incorporating these textures into your outfits can elevate the visual appeal of your photos. Imagine a couple wrapped in chunky knit sweaters, with the textured fabric adding a tactile element to the images.

5. Seasonal Accessories:

Accessorizing is a key element in creating a polished look for your fall couples photoshoot. Hats, scarves, and gloves not only add practical warmth but also contribute to the overall aesthetic. For instance, a wide-brimmed hat can add a touch of vintage charm, while a well-chosen scarf can bring in a pop of color or pattern.

6. Timeless Classics:

While experimenting with seasonal trends is fun, incorporating timeless classics ensures that your photos will remain relevant and stylish for years to come. Crisp white shirts, well-fitted denim, and tailored jackets are versatile elements that can be effortlessly integrated into fall photoshoot outfits. These timeless pieces serve as a foundation for building a look that withstands the test of time.

7. Consider the Location:

The backdrop of your photoshoot can significantly influence your outfit choices. Whether you’re strolling through a pumpkin patch, wandering in an orchard, or enjoying a cozy picnic in the woods, tailor your outfits to complement the surroundings. Earthy tones might work well in a forest setting, while brighter colors could pop against a backdrop of fallen leaves.

8. Footwear Matters:

Don’t overlook the importance of footwear in completing your fall look. Opt for stylish yet practical choices like ankle boots, loafers, or even fashionable rain boots if your photoshoot involves navigating potentially muddy terrain. The right pair of shoes can add the finishing touch to your outfits while ensuring comfort throughout the session.

9. Personal Style Expression:

While it’s important to consider the seasonal aesthetic, don’t forget to infuse your personal style into the outfits. Whether you prefer a bohemian flair, classic elegance, or a modern edge, let your unique style shine through. This authenticity will not only make you feel more comfortable during the photoshoot but will also result in images that truly reflect your personality as a couple.

10. Communicate and Coordinate:

To achieve a cohesive look, open communication between partners is crucial. Discuss color palettes, styles, and preferences to ensure that both individuals feel confident and comfortable in their chosen outfits. Coordination doesn’t mean sacrificing personal style; rather, it’s about finding a balance that harmonizes both partners’ preferences.
