Men, listen up! Ladies, you can listen up too (we both know it’s most likely you picking out the clothes anyway 😉 ). Dressing for church can sometimes be a daunting task, especially with the variety of dress codes that different congregations may follow. Whether your Sunday service gears more formal, or if you can get away with wearing something more relaxed, or even a pair of jeans, it’s important to choose an outfit that reflects both your personal style and respect for the sacred space. So first things first, find out what right attire is for your church’s weekly services.

This combo offers versatility and can be mixed and matched with different shirts and accessories. Paul can’t be the only one annoyed by his wife always telling him to stop wearing the same thing over and over.

Colors: White or light blue dress shirts paired with grey or beige dress pants are classic timeless choices. Bolder and bright colors like greens, pinks, and orange really make a statement.

Pants: Black pants tend to lean more formal. To make more of a statement, opt for bolder solid colors.

Maybe your church leans less heavily on the formal side and you don’t need to wear full-on suit and tie formal clothes. This is a bit easier to shop for, and offers a variety of styles to choose from for your weekly worship services. Yay!

Blazers and Dress Pants

For a semi-formal approach, blazers paired with dress pants can strike the perfect balance between dressy and relaxed. Paul actually wore something like this on our wedding day. It’s nice enough for a special occasion but not too formal.

Blazers: Choose a blazer in a versatile fabric like tweed, linen, or cotton, depending on the season of course. Wool works too.

Dress Pants: Neutral-colored dress pants in beige or grey work great, but darker colors like navy, or charcoal also provide a solid foundation.

Shirts: Simple button-down dress shirts in soft hues or subtle patterns enhance the semi-formal vibe, again play with pattern.

Footwear: Brogues or derby shoes are ideal for this look.

Polo Shirts and Chinos

For a semi-formal yet comfortable look, a polo shirt paired with chinos is a great option.

Polo Shirts: Choose well-fitted polos in solid colors or minimal patterns. Twillory is a good example of the perfect polo. Paul’s favorite brand for these for sure!

Chinos: Slim or straight-leg chinos in beige, navy, or olive offer a comfortable yet refined look. I feel like we are talking your average job interview clothing.

3. Casual(ish) Clothes

Sweaters and Pants

A sweater layered over a collared shirt with dress pants or even nice jeans offers a comfortable yet put-together ensemble for church.

Sweaters: Opt for fine-knit sweaters in solid colors or subtle patterns. V-neck or crew-neck styles work well.

Pants: Have fun with colors here. If you don’t like making too much of a statement, stick to classic colors like black, navy, or grey.

4. Literally, Holy Jeans

Wow, we are getting seriously holy roller over here! Holy jeans for the win! Hallelujah! If you can get away with wearing holy jeans in church, this post probably isn’t very helpful to you. But, if you just want to be inspired, keep reading. All the better! :)

Casual Jean Outfits

If your church has a serious laid-back dress code, you can definitely wear jeans. It is up to you how presentable you’d like to look when picking out a pair.

Jeans: Choose any wash of jeans. A straight or slim fit is Paul’s particular favorite.

Tops: We’d recommend pairing your jeans with a button-down shirt, polo, or a fine-knit sweater. But hey, a t-shirt and holy jeans keep the vibe mega casual.

Blazers: Church is always cold. There I said it. What is up with that? The AC seems to always be blasting. Adding a blazer can instantly elevate a jeans outfit to make it more church-appropriate and keep you warm. Win, win.

Shoes: Casual sneakers, boat shoes, and Chukka boots are excellent choices to complement jeans, but like we said, Paul gets away with a nice pair of sandals or flip-flops on a Sunday morning.
